Hammermill rotor assembly

The J.C. Steele Double Rotor Hammermill is a high-capacity grinder mill designed and engineered with input from plant operators and engineers, machine operators and maintenance technicians.  This versatile, robust machine adapts to your installation requirements and gives you the processing capacity you need for your specific raw materials.  It also offers superior dust control and ease of maintenance.

The Steele double rotor hammermill design minimizes “dead” spaces that allow materials to build up and clog the machine.  As a result, the dual rotor design allows more reliable processing than other hammer mills, particularly when running materials with higher moisture content.

These dual rotors feature massive, balanced assemblies cradled in large-section ductile iron frames with heavy ¾ inch (19mm) liners.  Ductile iron covers minimize sound, vibration and resonance.  We cast wearing parts from our ultra-durable 28PC high chrome iron alloy.  The grinding machine’s mass and precision engineering protect the bearings from dust, dirt and vibration.  Multiple seal layering couples with dynamic purging to eliminate dirt from the infinite-life bearings.

On-site evaluations of this twin rotor design shows seal lives exceeding 20,000 hours of operation and bearings showing no significant wear after 40,000 hours.

The airborne dust control you want

Most hammer mill designs produce vertical plumes of dust and high-velocity particles at the discharge.  The J.C. Steele double rotor hammer mill uses an optional discharge conveyor and chute system to minimize or eliminate dust and particle discharge, while improving accessibility.  Adjustable deflectors with clod removal ensure that process material is properly introduced to the grinding machinery.  The optional J.C. Steele feed chute also improves grinding efficiency, wear life, and dust control (see auxiliary equipment).

Modifications for your process material

The J.C. Steele double rotor hammer mill can process up to 300 tons (271 metric tons) per hour (throughput varies, depending on your material composition and moisture content, incoming feed system capacity and selected hammer mill components).  You can specify individual breaker bar arrangements, higher tip speeds, special wear-resistant materials, motor and motor position modifications and other accessories.

Maximum screenable output ranges from minus-8 mesh producing 100 tons (91 metric tons) per hour to minus-14 mesh producing 30 tons (27 metric tons) per hour.
