J.C. Steele pug mills are designed and engineered for continuous intensive mixing of liquids and/or sludges with dry solids. Our experience with the installed base has driven continuous improvement over the years. We've worked with plant and machine operators to create a pugmill series that excels in harsh environments, offering reduced downtime and operating costs with minimal maintenance requirements and fast replacement of wearing parts.

Mixing elements designed as knives instead of paddles for improved mixing

The mixing elements in our pugmills are knives, which offer better mixing and de-airing action than paddles.  This means more efficient de-airing of sticky substances with minimal material adherence.

We cast our replaceable pugknife blades with our abrasion-resistant high chrome iron alloy. These adjustable-pitch knives fit on the shaft in a series of overlapping spirals that move material to the discharge end of the tub (you can set the knife pitch to accelerate or retard material flow).

J.C. Steel pug mills are designed and engineered to isolate machine components from the materials in the tub, with heavy-duty grease purged seals and open bulkheads at each shaft exit point. The rugged construction includes machine frames cast with our heavy ductile iron, heavy-duty gears and bearings, large diameter shafts and pneumatic clutches.

The high torque mixing action and rugged combination of frame, machine parts and wearing parts give this pug mill ideal a long service life and lower total cost of ownership. Like all of our machinery, the J.C. Steele pug mills offer reliable, low-maintenance operation in harsh industrial environments, with fast replacement of wearing parts from our worldwide service network and in-house parts manufacturing operation.
